Between long waits for passports and treacherous lines at the airport, travel can feel daunting. But it doesn’t have to be! There are fantastic vacations waiting at the end of journey! Here are some tips to make getting through the airport a little bit easier.

If you need to be somewhere, plan to arrive days early

  • You don’t want to miss a wedding, graduation, retirement party, etc because of a cancelled flight
  • Give yourself time and space

Get the airline app

  • Any flight changes, (delays and cancellations) will come out on the app first
  • If you haven’t left the house (or hotel yet) this saves you spending time in the airport
  • This happened to us in Italy and we were able to get a few extra hours in Rome while other people spent 10 hours in the airport

Fly on the first flight of the day

  • This is the flight least likely to be cancelled or delayed
  • You will still need to get there early

Get there early

  • 3 hours for international
  • 2 hours for domestic
  • Allow more time for everything than you would normally assume

Book long lay overs

  • With delayed flights, people are missing tight connections
  • Give yourself more time than you think you need just in case
  • I’ve missed two connections in the past few months!

BYOF – Bring Your Own Food

  • Line ups for restaurants and fast food will be long
  • Not all food services are available due to lack of staff
  • Plan as though food is not available

Don’t travel without insurance

  • With so many cancellations, lost baggage and other trip delays, having insurance will make sure that you can get help and claim for anything that may disappear

Pack Your Patience and kindness

  • Everyone (staff and passengers) is stressed. A little kindness goes a long way.
  • It’s going to be a journey- Be ready to wait
