I was #BornToMove + Contest
I’ve always loved to dance. As a kid, my parents constantly played records – yes, vinyl records- and our whole family would dance around the house. I would watch my parents dance with each other and they always seemed happy then. My siblings and I would make up our own dance moves and sing along to our favourite songs. I remember setting up our camcorder to make music videos and dancing videos. Every extended family gathering ended up in a dance party. I took dance lessons, performed in musical theatre, competed in dance competitions, went to a performing arts high school and hung out with dancers. To me, dance meant happiness.#BornToMove
In fact, dance is what took me to London, England at the age of 19, where I trained and performed as a dancer. A general lack of talent and an unforeseen injury cut my would-be career short but my love of dance never faltered. There is something about celebrating what your body can do and moving to music that is unlike anything else in existence. It allows you to connect with other people, places and most importantly, it allows you to connect with yourself. It reminds me that I was #BornToMove.
So when Dr. Scholl’s asked me to take part in their #BornToMove campaign, it made perfect sense. Together with Dr. Scholl’s, I want to get as many Canadians moving as possible whether it is dancing, playing a favourite sport or walking. Moving well is critical to our well-being and Dr. Scholl’s believes nothing should stop us from moving in the ways we enjoy the most, especially not pain, tiredness or discomfort. #BornToMove
I hope my son always dances with me, with our family and one day, with a family of his own.
