We are officially in summer which means school is out and kids are ready for vacation. Many families are avoiding the craziness of the airport and are opting to drive to their getaway. So how do we spend hours in a car with our kids without losing our mind? It doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Here are a few survival skills for road tripping with the kids:
Have them help plan the journey
- Get a map and show them where you are going
- Highlight anything they’d like to see on the way
- Learn about the places you’ll be going through
Snacks
- Hangry kids make bad car-mates
- Snacks keep kids busy as well as fed
- Easy-to-open snacks are best
Plan a Break
- Eat at a restaurant
- Exercise Break: Throw a ball, yoga, Aerobic Break
- Check out a roadside attraction
Entertainment
- Lots of options for entertainment

Make a playlist
- My kids LOVE music!
- Choose your favourite songs and have a: dance party, sing a long party and, sleep party
Play Musical Seats
- If your kids are old enough and IT IS SAFE, change spots so kids can see the world from a different seat
