No Baby Unhugged in Nanaimo
One of the reasons I love working with Huggies® is their commitment to the No Baby Unhugged® program. From their creation of the Hug Plan for moms-to-be, to educating families on the importance of skin to skin, to specially crafted diapers for premature babies, to their volunteer hugging programs across Canada, I feel like Huggies® always has mom & baby’s best interests at heart. And just in time for National Hugging Day, here they go again, doing their best to ensure that all babies get the hugs they need to thrive. No Baby Unhugged in Nanaimo
On January 15th, Huggies®, in partnership with Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) and Island Health, launched the second No Baby Unhugged® program in the province of BC and fourth in Canada! The volunteer baby hugging program helps ensure all babies, especially those in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), receive much-needed physical human interaction if a parent is unable to be there for whatever reason. As part of the new hugging program, three specially trained volunteers will be on call to give hugs, kisses, songs and snuggles for babies needing this type of special care. The launch of this program also includes a $25,000 grant from Huggies® to further promote hugging and skin-to-skin within the Pediatric Unit. Some items this donation may be used towards includes more rocking chairs, volunteer training and more. Check out this video capturing the unique hugging program at NRGH.
To-date, Huggies® has given $100,000 in grants to initiate hugging programs in Canadian hospitals, including Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Southlake Regional Health Centre, in the hopes that more babies will get the essential hugs they need in their early days.
