Summer is in full swing and we are actually able to head out and DO things again. But it has been awhile: how we spend a day out as a family again? Where do we go? What do we do?
I chatted with The Morning Show to highlight some classic family focused destinations…but with a bit of a twist:
The Zoo
- The zoo is the perfect day out for the whole family: See all of your favourite animals
- Enhance your trip by picking three different animals and considering their habitats. How are those created at the zoo? What would you change? Ex:
- Polar bear (snow, water, shade)
- Orangutan (trees, water, toys)
- Reptiles (Lighting, Water, Branches)
Picnic
- Tie your picnic to a theme like countries (inspired by countries in the Olympics)
- England (Cucumber sandwiches, scones with cream & jam, Eton Mess)
- Turkey (Fried eggplant and peppers, stuffed vegetable and vine leaves, Hummus, Sish kebabs, baklava for dessert)
- France (Cheeses, baguette, wine, fruit, pastries, fish)
Aquarium
- Seeing so many different types of fish and underwater species is exciting!
- Enhance your trip with a scavenger hunt. Depending on the ag3 of your child, that can mean different things:
- Find 3 blue fish, 3 with stripes, 4 with legs
- Find 4 nocturnal species, 3 that eat other fish, 3 that use camouflage to protect themselves, etc
Walk/Hike/Bike
- Play ‘Choose your own adventure’ through the woods
- Create shelters out of branches and other outdoor materials
- Make a note of any questions to learn more about later
