Next week, Natty P Online is being taken over by Johnnie Walker whisky. I will be exploring the wonderful world of Walker with delicious recipes, whisky factoids and most importantly, steps to hosting your own whisky tasting at home…Just in time for Father’s Day.
Although both my mother-in-law and my own mother are the whisky drinkers in their households, whisky (Scotch, Bourbon, Rye) is stereotypically associated with men: powerful, strong, manly men -Think Don Draper (Mad Men), Jack Donoghey (30 Rock), Ron Swanson (Parks & Rec). According to Cracked.com, ‘whisky is a currency of respect among men. A bottle of it presented to a fellow says “I acknowledge you as a man and have no plans to stab you.’ And what better way to tell your Dad that you acknowledge his manliness and do not want to stab him than throwing him his own private scotch tasting?
And so, in preparation for Father’s Day, I am hosting a scotch tasting celebrating all of my favourite Dads. No, I don’t have more than one father- I have one amazing one- but there are a few amazing Dads in my life that I think deserve a raised glass…or two.
Together with Mr. Walker himself, Cameron the ambassador, over the next week, we are going to sip and savour some delicious scotch whisky both on its own and in some delicious cocktails.
